Wrinkles are an inevitable part of life and the aging process. The wear and tear our bodies go through and the stresses of life will soon catch up with us.
The best way to reduce and eliminate wrinkles is through specialised treatments, however, there are other things you can incorporate into your daily life that will keep wrinkles at bay for that bit longer.
1. SLEEP ON YOUR BACK
Something as simple as changing your sleeping position will have you fighting off the wrinkles effortlessly. Sleeping on the side or face down causes sleep lines to appear when you wake. The former on cheeks and chin and the latter gives a furrowed brow look – a bit like a wifi signal on your forehead!
Sleeping on your back does the opposite, as it does not apply any pressure on your face. Now you can tell people, getting rid of wrinkles is so easy, you can do it in your sleep.
2. EAT MORE SALMON
If you’re a seafood fan, you will want to include more salmon in your diet. Salmon contains two essential ingredients that contribute to great skin: protein and omega-3 fatty acids. This makes sure skins remains youthful and fresh looking.
3. DON’T OVERWORK YOUR FACIAL MUSCLES
Usually working out your muscles is a good thing but this does not apply to facial muscles. Regular squinting or frowning causes grooves between the surface of the skin and these eventually turn into the dreaded wrinkles. A few things you can do about this is to use reading glasses to avoid squinting and sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun.
4. LATHER ON SOME ACIDS
We mean the good acids here – Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) eliminate our dead skin, reduces pores and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. Some AHAs can help promote collagen production that makes your skin firm, but sensitive to the sun so make sure to wear sunscreen.
5. DON’T WASH YOUR FACE OFTEN
Washing your face with just water excessively also washes off natural oils that are responsible for protecting your skin against wrinkles. Alternatively, use gel or skin moisturisers.
6. DON’T EAT YOUR VITAMIN C, WEAR IT INSTEAD
Vitamin C has the potential to increase collagen production, which as we know helps the skin against wrinkles. The added benefit of vitamin C is the protection it provides against ultraviolet A and B (UVA/B). Unprotected exposure to UVA and UVB does not only causes wrinkles but is responsible for cancer too.
7. USE SOY FOR YOUR SKIN
According to studies applying soy to your skin provides protection against sun damage and can even heal existing damage. Furthermore, it maintains your skin’s structure.
8. HAVE SOME CHOCOLATE
It turns out that chocolate does have some positive side effects. Cocoa, specifically contains antioxidants that promote good flow of blood to the skin, retains moisture and, as a result, makes skin look smoother.
9. DO THESE BASICS!
You can’t always control how your body moves when sleeping and you may not like seafood. If anything already mentioned is not feasible, there are few basics you can do to prevent wrinkles. Try and reduce excessive exposure to the sun and wear a wide formula sunscreen and cover your skin if you find yourself spending a lot of time in the sun. Smoking is a big no-no – it has no nutritional value whatsoever and, lastly, invest in a good skin moisturiser.
