Injections are delivered into the skin through a very fine needle, they won’t hurt as such but most clients feel some short lived discomfort. A local anaesthetic numbing cream can be applied to reduce the level of discomfort that is felt.

When you have anti-ageing injections, a substance is injected directly into specific muscles of the face that are involved in the regular movements causing the lines. For example, the muscles involved in frowning are called the corrugator muscles, these muscles are injected to help improve and prevent the ‘frown lines’. To help the ‘crow’s feet’ we inject into the orbicularis oculi muscles.

Every time you use these muscles, it causes a wrinkling of the skin. When that happens many times, hundreds or even thousands of times, it can make the wrinkles stronger.

Anti-ageing injections stop you from making that wrinkle stronger by limiting the contraction of the muscle. It doesn’t necessarily stop the muscle working entirely, although in high doses it can do that, but in lower doses, what it actually does is reduces the strength of the contraction and therefore it stops you from producing such a strong wrinkle. This provides an excellent anti-wrinkle effect and it’s an extremely safe and effective treatment that can last for months at a time. It is considered one of the best ways to get rid of wrinkles.

The first question many people ask when considering whether or not to have anti-ageing injections, is whether it is a safe procedure. The answer to this is yes, it is a particularly safe treatment to have.

Would it be the right treatment for you and effective? You can only know this following a full aesthetic assessment with a competent, trained doctor or fully qualified practitioner and they would be able to assess you and decide if it would be a good treatment for you.

It is a particularly effective treatment for someone who has lines across the forehead horizontally, surprise lines or the frown lines and/or particularly bad crow’s feet. However it is not ideal if the wrinkles are obvious and deep all the time, even when you completely relax your face. If that’s the case, it may potentially be too late for anti-ageing injections to be fully effective.

If you’ve got prominent lines when you move your face, but they tend to go away when you relax your face that’s the ideal time to have anti-ageing injections. Often, people think it is best to wait until later in life until the lines are more obvious, but actually, anti-ageing injections are very effective at preventing lines from appearing and getting worse, so they are an excellent preventative treatment.
