Scar Treatment
London

If you have pitted or indented scars from acne or chicken pox you can significantly lessen these with subcision treatment using a patented Nokor needle. The needle is inserted underneath the scar in order to cut through the scar tissue that is causing a tethering effect. Dermal filler is then injected in order to prevent re-tethering of the scar in future.

Scar treatment with subcision & dermal fillers

It is possible that you may have had scars for a long time but that doesn’t have to mean they are untreatable. There are options for many types of scars, though sadly keloid scars do not benefit from subcision and dermal filler treatment. Here at Hedox Clinic, we offer this service to treat a range of scarring such as pitted acne scarring, small piercing scars, chicken pox scars and minor injury scars. The subcision treatment involves the use of a special needle inserted underneath the scar, gently going backwards and forwards below the scar, disrupting underlying scar tissue which is tethering the scar to the lower layers of skin. It is this process of cutting through the tethering that permits the scar surface to lift up and reduce the effect of indentation.

Dermal filler
for scarring

Using hyaluronic acid dermal filler, our expertly trained medical practitioners inject these into the newly untethered space to prevent the scar from tethering and reforming again. It is possible to use dermal fillers alone to inject into scar tissue without subcision but experience teaches us that the combination of using the special needle below the surface to disrupt the tethered scarring produces optimum results. Depending on the scar to be treated and the area of the body, results can be long-lasting after only a single treatment.

At Hedox Clinic you can feel reassured that your assessment and discussion of your case is with a fully trained expert professional who will guide you through the options and set clear expectations at the time. It is possible it may take more than one sitting or potentially even revisiting after a period of time but you can always trust our team to be straightforward and upfront about any aesthetic treatment undertaken in the clinic. Indeed, the treatment is well regarded and typically improves scars significantly, however, there is no treatment in the world that can simply wipe away severe scars and this should be considered in order to have realistic expectations.

Why choose subcision and dermal fillers?

There are many benefits to treatment with subcision and dermal fillers including flattening of the scar tissue, reducing the indentation in the skin, smoothing of the skin’s surface creating a more linear surface and, possibly the most important, reduced noticeability for you and others. Of course, with any aesthetic injectable treatment, there are always associated risks and given the disruptive nature of the treatment we need to expect an element of bruising. However, there is generally minimal downtime and a good result is normally seen within two weeks of treatment. As previously mentioned, this treatment is not suitable for keloid scars as it may aggravate the area causing more distress and worsening the scar tissue.

Achieving the best possible reduction in scarring and long-lasting effect to smoothen out the skin.

  • Quick treatment with minimal downtime

  • Flattening of the scarred tissue

  • Smoothing of skin surface

  • Reduced noticeability

Scar treatment with subcision & dermal filler FAQS

Subcision treatment for scars involves the use of a special needle that is inserted from the side of the scar and then goes backwards and forward underneath the scar itself in order to disrupt any underlying scar tissue which may be tethering the scar to the lower layers of the skin. By cutting through these tethers, the surface scar can lift up and become significantly less indented or ‘drawn in’. For the very best results, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are then injected into the area that has just been treated. In order to prevent tethering and scarring under the surface to provide a long-lasting result. If dermal fillers are not injected there is a significant chance that the scar could simply reform.

Facial and body scars can be treated with dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid filler can be injected into the scar itself in order to reduce the indentation. However, for best results, it is often best to combine dermal filler treatment to the scar with subcision treatment using a special needle to get under the scar itself and break up any underlying scar tissue which is tethering it to lower layers of the skin. To find out if this could be a could treatment for you please contact our helpful team to arrange a consultation with our medical doctors.

Subcision treatment combined with hyaluronic dermal fillers can be an effective treatment for significantly improving the look of scars on the face and body e.g. acne, chicken pox, piercings, or previous injury.

Benefits:

– Flattening of the scar

– Reduced indentation

– Smoothing of skin surface

– Reduced noticeability

Risks:

– Bleeding

– Bruising

– Results are not strong enough (in some cases)

– Could aggravate keloid scars, therefore not recommended

In some cases, subcision cases for scars combined with hyaluronic acid filler may have an excellent impact after just a single treatment, which may potentially be long-lasting. However, in other cases, multiple treatments may be required. Assessment and setting of expectations would be formed during a consultation with your practitioner.

Many people get subcision treatment for scars with hyaluronic acid fillers in order to significantly reduce the impact of the scar by reducing the indentation and optimising the smoothness of the skin’s surface. It is a minor, safe procedure with few side effects and can help avoid more invasive or aggressive treatment options, with inherent higher risks.

The cost of subcision treatment with dermal fillers for treatments of scars varies from clinic to clinic and is based on level of expertise and individual requirements. We would be happy to advise an individual cost when you contact our friendly team but typically this procedure would cost £350.00 for the combined treatment at the Hedox Clinic.

Subcision treatment for scars with hyaluronic acid filler is a very safe treatment and associated with very minimal pain, however, the very nature of it means that it is usually associated with some minor bruising, swelling and inflammation in the area treated. It is not possible to avoid this entirely, however, in many cases, it is minimal and will go away within a few days. This is dependent on the size and type of the scar with smaller superficial scars recovering very rapidly. A noticeable improvement may be seen quickly but it may take two weeks for the full effect to be observed.

The duration of benefit from subcision treatment of scars with hyaluronic acid fillers varies depending on the type and size of the scar and interpersonal factors such as the location and the person’s metabolic rate. However, in some cases, when treatment is carried out to a high standard, the results may be long-lasting because the scar may not tether due to the presence of the hyaluronic acid filler which will gradually dissipate over time naturally. In some cases, the treatment may need to be repeated.

There are numerous kinds of scars, including the following:

Keloid Scar – Scars with a keloid appearance are the outcome of an excessively hasty healing process. Beyond the site of the initial injury, these scars are called keloid scars, and they may eventually limit mobility. Treatment options include steroid injections or surgical removal. Cryotherapy is able to treat smaller keloids (freezing therapy using liquid nitrogen). When you suffer an injury, you can also stop keloid formation by applying pressure therapy or silicone-infused gel pads. Black people are more likely than other races to get keloid scars.

Hypertrophic scars: Red, raised scars resembling keloids that do not extend outside the confines of the injury site. Injections of steroids to decrease inflammation are a potential course of treatment.

Scars that create a tightening of the skin, which might limit your ability to move, are known as contracture scars. If your skin has been burned, you may also have deeper scars that impact your muscles and nerves.

Acne Scar Treatment: If you’ve battled severe acne, you probably have the scars to show for it. Acne scars come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from deep pits to waves or angular scars. Laser, dermal filler injections, chemical peels, and Dermaoller are examples of potential treatments.

Stretch marks are a particular kind of scar that appears when the skin stretches quickly (eg during a teenage growth spurt or pregnancy). Chemical peels and derma rollers are two possible treatments.
